Izu Shaboten Zoo, whose five greenhouses and animal-show hall are under a roof, is about 49 minutes by bus. Preschoolers (0-6): Morning at Ito Marine Town (5 minutes by bus, stroller-friendly indoor shops), afternoon at Tokaikan, where preschoolers enter free; it is a three-storey wooden building with many stairs and not barrier-free, so bring a carrier.
Elementary-school children: Morning bus from stop 5 to Izu Shaboten Zoo (about 49 minutes): greenhouses and the main hall are covered, outdoor animal areas need rain jackets. Afternoon at Tokaikan or the Kinoshita Mokutaro Memorial Museum (children 50 yen).
Finish with a bath: Asahi-no-yu Seaside Spa at Marine Town (from age 3, 600 yen on weekdays) or a Shichifukujin public bath 5-7 minutes from the station (elementary-school children 150-200 yen).

Izu Shaboten Zoo: five greenhouses and a show hall under a roof

A zoo and botanical park in Futo, Ito City. The official park map lists Greenhouses 1 to 5, growing about 1,500 species of cacti and succulents with animals living among them, and the main hall where animal shows are held; both are under a roof. The site never uses the word "indoor", so check on a very wet day; outdoor animal areas need rain gear.

Hours: 9:30-17:00 (last entry 16:30), with seasonal changes. Open every day.
Admission: weekdays 2,800 yen adults (junior high and up), 1,400 yen elementary, 700 yen ages 4+; weekends, holidays and school-holiday periods 3,000 / 1,500 / 800 yen.
For families: stroller rental (paid, first come), a baby room, coin lockers.
Getting there: Tokai Bus from stop 5 at Ito Station bound for Shaboten Koen (routes I60, I61, I65-I67), about 49 minutes; get off at Omuroyama Lift / Shaboten Koen, then a 5-minute walk. 880 yen (1,010 yen from 1 October 2026); from Izu-Kogen Station about 24 minutes.

Ito Marine Town: indoor shopping, seven restaurants and a 5:00 onsen

Hours: shops 9:00-18:00 (varies by area), restaurants 11:00-19:30 last order, breakfast 6:00-9:00 at the spa restaurant only (the spa page says until 10:00). Open daily.
Asahi-no-yu Seaside Spa: opens 5:00; last entry is 20:30 on the spa page and 21:00 on the hours page, so treat 20:30 as the cut-off (on the designated days of GW, Obon and New Year the spa page says until 22:00, last entry 21:00, and the hours page 23:00, last entry 22:00). Weekdays 1,000 yen adults, 600 yen children (age 3 to elementary school); weekends, holidays and designated days 1,500 / 1,400 yen (with / without towel) and 750 / 700 yen. No under-3 fee is listed; children in nappies use the baby bath. Maintenance closure 10-11 December 2026.
Getting there: Tokai Bus from Ito Station bound for Marine Town, about 5 minutes (200 yen adults, 100 yen children; adults 220 yen from 1 October 2026, the new child fare not yet in the main table), or a 15-20 minute walk (the access page gives both).

Tokaikan: walk through a 1928 wooden inn, 7 minutes from the station

In Higashi-Matsubara, Ito City. Tokaikan opened in 1928 as a hot-spring inn and reopened as a city-run visitor facility in 2001: the inn's tools, material on writers who stayed in Ito Onsen, and a 1949 watchtower. The tourist association's guide time is 30-90 minutes.

Admission: 300 yen adults, 150 yen children, preschoolers free (from 1 April 2026).
Hours: 9:00-21:00 (last entry 20:00). Closed the third Tuesday of each month (next day if a holiday) and 1 January.
Bath: weekends and holidays only, 11:00-19:00, alternating men and women. 500 yen adults, 300 yen children up to elementary school, free for ages 2 and under. Children still in nappies cannot bathe.

Kinoshita Mokutaro Memorial Museum and the Shichifukujin baths

The city-run museum of the writer Kinoshita Mokutaro is a 5-minute walk from Ito Station: 9:00-16:30 (April-September) or 16:00 (October-March), closed Mondays (Tuesday after a holiday) and 28 December-4 January; 100 yen adults, 50 yen up to junior high. The Shichifukujin-no-yu public baths open in the afternoon: Yukawa Benten-no-yu (350 / 150 yen, 14:00-22:00, closed Wednesdays, 5-minute walk) and Matsubara Daikokutenjin-no-yu (400 / 200 yen, private bath 800 yen for 50 minutes, 15:00-22:00, daily, 7-minute walk); preschool rates are not listed. Bowling in town: Dankoen Bowl, 15 minutes on foot

Dankoen Bowl in Takenouchi, run by Hotel Dankoen, has 36 wooden lanes on two floors, 18 of them gutter-free bumper lanes (book ahead with small children, says Marine Town's rainy-day round-up). Open 10:00-23:00 daily; per game 650 yen adults on weekdays, 700 on weekends and holidays, 450 yen junior and senior high, 400 yen elementary and under, shoes extra (300 or 400 yen depending on the page). Adults only (couples, solo): three hours on foot from the station

The same station-side loop works without children: Tokaikan (300 yen, 7 minutes), the Kinoshita Mokutaro Memorial Museum (100 yen, 5 minutes), then a private bath: Matsubara Daikokutenjin-no-yu (800 yen for 50 minutes) or the family bath at Bishamonten Shiba-no-yu (2,000 yen for 60 minutes, 14:00-22:00, closed Tuesdays, 15-minute walk). The Ito Tourist Association's rainy-day model course (by car) lists indoor facilities in the Izu-Kogen area of Ito City; without a car, take Izukyu from Ito Station to Izu-Kogen Station (750 yen). Izu Teddy Bear Museum: 9:30-17:00 (entry until 16:30), closed the second Tuesday of February, March, June and December unless a holiday; 1,800 / 1,200 / 1,000 yen (adults / junior and senior high / elementary), preschoolers free; 9 minutes on foot from the station's Sakuranamiki exit. Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art: 9:00-17:00, closed Wednesdays except holidays, July, August and New Year; 1,000 / 700 / 500 yen (adults / high school / junior high and elementary); from Ito Station, the Shaboten Koen bus via Ippeki-ko to Ikeda Bijutsukan, about 30 minutes. Izu-Kogen-no-yu day-use onsen: 1,300 yen adults, 650 yen from age 4 on the operator's site (the association page still shows 1,000 / 500), 10:00-24:00 (last entry 23:00), closed the first and third Thursday except holidays and school breaks; children in nappies may not enter the tubs; 5 minutes on foot from the station. Izu Granpal Park, also in Futo, is built around outdoor rides; its site allows weather suspensions without refund and records a weather closure on 7 September 2026. We could not confirm any indoor attraction on its official site (the association's 2024 feature presents the VR ride MAGICa!!, 600 yen, as indoor), so it is not a rainy-day pick here.
