Ito, Shizuoka with Kids: Age-by-Age Places and Child Fares

In Ito, Shizuoka you can travel with children without a car, and three places carry the trip. Mount Omuro (Omuroyama), whose chairlift is free for preschoolers (round trip 1,000 yen adults, 500 yen elementary-school children); Ito Marine Town, a roadside station 5 minutes by bus from Ito Station with two nursing rooms and free stroller loan; and the two parks in Futo, Izu Shaboten Zoo and Izu Granpal Park, both with a child rate from age 4. On Tokai Bus, two preschoolers ride free per paying passenger. Every fee and time below was checked on the official sites on 2026-09-13; anything they do not state is left out.

The short answer by age

Strollers (0-2), day trip: one base, Ito Marine Town. Two nursing rooms, 9:00-21:30; strollers and wheelchairs lent free at the desk inside (loans 9:00-17:00). About 5 minutes by bus from Ito Station.
Toddlers (3-6), day trip: the Mount Omuro chairlift, free for preschoolers, about 49 minutes by bus from stop 5 at Ito Station. The rim path is about 1,000 m, 20-30 minutes.

Child fares: two preschoolers free per paying passenger

On Tokai Bus a "child" is anyone up to elementary school and pays half the adult fare (rounded up); a "preschooler" rides free, two per paying passenger. Stops at Ito Station are on the left as you leave the gates: stop 1 for Marine Town, stop 5 for Granpal Park and Shaboten Koen (the chairlift). Adult one-way fares are revised on 1 October 2026.

Under the current rule children up to elementary school pay half the adult fare, but the revised child fares are not in the operator's main fare table, so ask the driver or the ticket office on the day. By train, Izukyu charges 750 yen from Ito to Izu-Kogen and 650 yen to Jogasaki-Kaigan (revised 14 March 2026), and the Purat Izu-Kogen return ticket, sold only at the ticket window in Ito Station (9:00-17:00), is 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children, valid the day of purchase. The Tokai Bus Ito and Izu-Kogen 2-day pass is 1,800 yen for adults and 900 yen for children (500 yen on the EMot digital ticket), and 2,150 yen for adults from 1 October 2026. The revised price appears only in the operator's news release PDF; the pass pages themselves carried no revision notice as of 2026-09-13, and no revised child price is published anywhere. Strollers (0-2): a day at Ito Marine Town

Yukawa 571-19, about 5 minutes one way from Ito Station on the Tokai Bus service for Marine Town (the tourist association's page for the Attamarina foot bath inside Marine Town; its page for the roadside station itself gives only "13 minutes on foot from JR Ito Station", as of 2026-09-14). What makes it a base is that the operator publishes its family facilities: two nursing rooms in the "happy yellow toilets" with hot water, a changing table, nursing chairs, a microwave and air conditioning, open 9:00-21:30; changing tables in the Ocean Bazaar building too, baby chairs in the two accessible toilets; strollers and wheelchairs lent free at the desk inside (loans 9:00-17:00, desk 9:00-18:00). A workable day is the 10:00-ish bus, lunch from 11:00, the Asahi-no-yu Seaside Spa at 14:30 and a bus back around 16:30. Most of the seven restaurants open at 11:00 and the Marina view restaurant at 6:00; the soba restaurant Raku lists 9:00-17:30 (last order) on its own page, but a closure notice sits hidden in that page, so call the roadside station on 0557-38-3811 before counting on it. Six of the seven state both child seats and child tableware on their official pages (Izuchu Banban Shokudo, the Marina view restaurant, Izu Kogen Beer, Izumarusu, Janmarin and Izu Hamayaki Honpo), and two of those have tatami seating (Izuchu Banban Shokudo and the Marina view restaurant); that is six pages that say so, not six kitchens verified, as read on 2026-09-14. The spa is 600 yen for children (age 3 to elementary school) and 1,000 yen for adults on weekdays, 750 / 700 yen (with / without towel) and 1,500 / 1,400 yen on weekends, holidays and designated days; it opens at 5:00 with last entry 20:30 on the spa's own page, while the roadside station's opening-hours page gives 5:00-22:00 with last entry 21:00 and 23:00 over Golden Week, Obon and the New Year, so the closing time differs by day. Toddlers (3-6): the chairlift up Mount Omuro is free for preschoolers

Mount Omuro is climbed only by chairlift: round trip 1,000 yen for adults (junior high and up), 500 yen for elementary-school children, free for preschoolers, with a half fare on a disability certificate for the holder and one carer. Hours are 9:00-17:00 from March to September (last descent 17:15) and 9:00-16:00 from October to February (last descent 16:15), with long maintenance closures in June and December, and the operator warns that lightning, gusts, strong wind or an earthquake may mean coming down at once. The summit path is "about 1,000 m" in the operator's own wording and takes 20-30 minutes; the same page says the path may be closed to walkers even within opening hours, so leave time when you climb with a toddler. The lift starts in front of the bus stop, so there is no transfer and no climb on foot. A workable day: a 9-something bus from stop 5 at Ito Station for Shaboten Koen (routes I60, I61, I65-I67), about 49 minutes or about 24 from stop 1 at Izu-Kogen Station; the chairlift around 11:00; Izu Shaboten Zoo at 12:30, a 5-minute walk from the same stop; a bus back around 15:30. Elementary school: Granpal Park and Izu Shaboten Zoo

Izu Granpal Park (Futo 1090) charges, for the daytime session, 1,600 yen for adults (junior high and up), 1,000 yen for elementary-school children and 500 yen for ages 4 and up on weekdays, and 1,700 / 1,100 / 500 yen at weekends, on holidays and in season; rides cost extra, paid by prepaid card. It opens 9:30-17:00 (last entry 16:30), and 8:30-17:30 from 19 to 27 September 2026. Strollers and wheelchairs are lent free (no reservations, first come), a nursing room sits mid-park, and coin lockers (200 yen) are inside the gate. The park has closed at short notice for weather (7 September 2026), so check the calendar. The bus takes about 30 minutes from Ito Station and about 9 from Izu-Kogen Station, while the park's own access page says about 20 minutes from Izu-Kogen, so check the timetable on the day. Izu Shaboten Zoo (Futo 1317-13) charges 2,800 yen for adults, 1,400 yen for elementary-school children and 700 yen for ages 4 and up on weekdays, and 3,000 / 1,500 / 800 yen at weekends, on holidays and in school-holiday periods. It opens 9:30-17:00 (last entry 16:30) every day of the year, and 8:30-17:30 from 19 to 27 September 2026. Strollers are lent for a fee, limited and first come; there is a baby room for changing and nursing, plus coin lockers, and packed lunches are "basically allowed", eaten on the benches and never given to the animals. The park map lists a greenhouse area and the show hall where the animal show is held (the official pages do not use the word "indoor"; that reading comes from what a greenhouse and a hall are). The bus takes about 49 minutes from Ito Station while the zoo's access page says about 35, so check the timetable on the day. Two days without a car

Day one stays near Ito Station: with a stroller, the afternoon at Marine Town; otherwise the public bath Yukawa Benten-no-yu, a 5-minute walk from Ito Station, or the free Fureai-no-yu foot bath in Matsukawa-cho (10:00-17:00, open daily, though the official page adds that it may be unavailable for maintenance and may change with the weather, 10 minutes on foot). Day two takes one bus to the Izu-Kogen side: Mount Omuro then Izu Shaboten Zoo, a 5-minute walk apart, or Granpal Park alone. Jogasaki Coast with children: only what the official pages say

Jogasaki Coast (Jogasaki-kaigan) in Futo is a lava coast formed about 4,000 years ago. The Ito Tourist Association writes of "the roughly 9 km Picnical Course and nature trail", so the 9 km covers the two together rather than the Picnical Course alone; on the association's own course page, the section from Bora-naya to the Kadowaki suspension bridge is a 25-minute walk. The bridge is 48 m long and about 23 m high, and the deck at Kadowakizaki lighthouse gives a 360-degree view. The same course page still carries a notice of a partial closure for resurfacing work (21 August 2024 to 31 March 2025) and the current state of the path cannot be read off the official pages, so check the association's page before you go. It lists no admission fee and says nothing about steps, gradients, strollers or wheelchairs, so the official information cannot tell you whether a stroller gets through: bring a carrier, or see the bridge and turn back. Access is about 35 minutes on foot from Jogasaki-Kaigan Station on the Izukyu line (the railway says about 30), or by bus from stop 2 at Izu-Kogen Station towards Kaiyo Koen, about 9 minutes plus a 20-minute walk, and about 42 minutes plus the same walk from stop 2 at Ito Station. Within walking distance of the station: public baths and Tokaikan

The Ito Tourist Association publishes the fee and the hours for each of the town's public baths, and some are free for children up to elementary school (Oka Hotei-no-yu, Sakuragicho 2-2-16); some have a family bath. Some pages give no preschool fee, so check on site (as of 2026-09-13).

Tokaikan (Higashi-Matsubara 12-10, 7 minutes on foot from Ito Station) costs 300 yen general, 150 yen children and nothing for preschoolers, 9:00-21:00 with last entry 20:00, closed on the third Tuesday of each month (the next day when that is a public holiday) and on 1 January. Its bath runs weekends and holidays only, 11:00-19:00, at 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for children up to elementary school, free for ages 2 and under, and children in nappies cannot bathe. Ask at Ito Station: the information office and Baby Stations

The Ito City tourist information office is inside Ito Station (Yukawa 3-12-1, tel 0557-37-6105); its opening hours are not published on the tourist association's site, so none are given here. Ito City also registers venues with baby beds and nursing rooms as "Baby Stations" and publishes the list as a PDF (as of August 2025), noting that closing days, services and conditions differ by venue.
