Mount Omuro by Bus from Ito, Shizuoka: stops, routes, fares

From Ito Station in Ito, Shizuoka, one Tokai Bus reaches Mount Omuro (Omuroyama): stop 5, any service bound for Shaboten Koen, about 49 minutes, 880 yen for adults until 30 September 2026 and 1,010 yen from 1 October 2026 (Tokai Bus's revised fare table, as of 2026-09-13). The stop, Omuroyama Lift / Shaboten Koen, is in front of the chairlift that climbs to the 580 m summit; the operator's table gives the ride as about 6 minutes. First and last departures are not in this guide: Tokai Bus publishes them through a stop-name search rather than on the page itself, and the fares change on 1 October 2026. What follows is where to read the official times and fares, how to tell the route numbers apart, how to work backwards from the last descent at 16:15 (17:15 from March to September), and what to do on a day the lift is not running.

The short answer: stop 5 at Ito Station

Stop: the bays are on the left as you leave the ticket gates. Mount Omuro and Izu Shaboten Zoo leave from stop 5, as do buses for Ippeki-ko and Izu Granpal Park. The same bay also serves Komuroyama Ridge Walk "MISORA" and Akazawa Kaigan, so check that the destination sign reads Shaboten Koen before boarding.
Route and time: Shaboten Koen services I60, I61 and I65-I67, about 49 minutes, alighting at Omuroyama Lift / Shaboten Koen.
Fare: 880 yen for adults until 30 September 2026, 1,010 yen from 1 October 2026. Child fares are half the adult fare rounded up, but the revised child amounts are not in the main table, so check on the day. Preschoolers travel free, two per fare-paying passenger.
From Izu-Kogen Station: stop 1, services I70-I73 and I80, about 24 minutes, 430 yen (490 yen from 1 October 2026).
Chairlift hours: 9:00-17:00 March to September (last descent 17:15), 9:00-16:00 October to February (last descent 16:15).

Where to read the times

Departures are published through a stop-name search on the Tokai Bus timetable page; the only PDFs posted there are the Juntendo Hospital and Izu Amagi Resort lines, so Shaboten Koen services have to be looked up by stop name ("Ito Station" out, "Shaboten Koen" back). Fares are in the fare and route search and delays in service status. On the revision, the company's news release says it is "preparing so that the new fares can be searched from late September 2026", which we could not confirm as done today (as of 2026-09-13, from the revision notice and the news release (PDF)).

Route numbers: which ones go to the lift

Five Shaboten Koen services leave stop 5: I60, I61 and I65-I67. The same official table lists Ippeki-ko under I61 and I67 (about 36 minutes from Ito Station), while the Izu Granpal Park entry reads "board the Shaboten Koen service via Granpal Koen, or the Akazawa Kaigan service (route numbers I39, I65), about 30 minutes" - so I39 is also carried by Akazawa Kaigan buses, which are not among the routes listed for Mount Omuro. If the bus at the front shows I39, check that the destination sign says Shaboten Koen. The Tokai Bus office at Ito Station (3-12-1 Yukawa, 9:00-18:00, 9:00-17:00 over the New Year, tel. 0557-36-7077) sells the Ito / Izu-Kogen 2-day pass; it is not listed among the outlets for the Izu-Kogen / Jogasaki 1-day pass. The 2-day pass also takes 100 yen off an adult chairlift return (as of 2026-09-13, from the stop list, sightseeing access, the 2-day pass and the 1-day pass). Working backwards from the chairlift hours

The Omuroyama Chairlift runs 9:00-17:00 from March to September (last descent 17:15) and 9:00-16:00 from October to February (last descent 16:15). The crater rim walk is about 1,000 m and takes 20-30 minutes, and the operator adds that the path is sometimes closed even within opening hours. For the ride itself the only official figure is Tokai Bus's "about 6 minutes"; neither page says whether that covers one direction or both. To have an hour at the top - the rim walk plus waiting for and riding the lift - go up by about 15:15 (16:15 from March to September), which with the 49-minute ride means leaving Ito Station by roughly 14:20 (15:20). The last ride up is the end of opening hours - the operator's home page showed first ride 9:00, last ride up 17:00 and last descent 17:15 on 2026-09-13, with 16:00 and 16:15 from October to February - and taking it leaves only 15 minutes at the top, not enough for the rim walk. These are calculations from the official hours and the operator's 49 minutes, so check the actual departures in the stop-name search (as of 2026-09-13, from chairlift hours and fares and sightseeing access).

The tourist association splits the seasons differently ("1 October to 5 March 9:00-16:15", "6-15 March 9:00-16:45", "16 March to 30 September 9:00-17:15"), prices children as "500 yen, age 4 and over", and lists closing days as "none"; the chairlift's own page says 500 yen for elementary-school children with preschoolers free, and closing days "irregular". Hours, fares and closing days here follow the operator, while the 580 m elevation and the grass burning on the second Sunday of February come from the association. On 1 January the lift runs early for the first sunrise, 5:40-8:00 (planned, tickets sold until 7:00), and the operator's page says normal service then starts at 9:30; whether a bus connects at that hour has to be checked in the Tokai Bus search (as of 2026-09-13, from chairlift hours and fares and the association page).

Two travel times: 49 minutes and 35

The official pages disagree. Tokai Bus, the operator, says about 49 minutes from Ito Station and about 24 from Izu-Kogen Station; Izu Shaboten Zoo says about 35 and about 20. This guide uses the operator's figures. The Ito Tourist Association's "roughly 30 minutes from Ito Station" and "roughly 12 minutes from Izu-Kogen Station" appear under the heading "Access: by car" in its data box - they are driving times, not bus times (as of 2026-09-13, from sightseeing access, the zoo's access page and the association page).

Going back: Ito Station, or out via Izu-Kogen

Returning to Ito Station is the same stop and the same 880 yen (1,010 yen from 1 October 2026), about 49 minutes. The alternative is 24 minutes by bus to Izu-Kogen Station, 430 yen (490 yen), then Izukyu to Ito for 750 yen: one more change, no retracing. The bays at Izu-Kogen are a minute from the Sakuranamiki exit (stop 1 for Shaboten Koen and Akazawa Kaigan, stop 2 for Ito Station and Kaiyo Koen), with no bus office inside the station. Stops on the way include Ippeki-ko (about 36 minutes from Ito Station, 640 yen, 740 yen from 1 October) and Izu Granpal Park (about 30 minutes, 740 yen, 850 yen); from Shaboten Koen it is 270 yen to Granpal and 380 yen to Ippeki-ko, or 310 and 440 yen after the revision (as of 2026-09-13, from sightseeing access, the stop list, the fare table (PDF) and Izukyu fares).

If the chairlift is not running

The chairlift is the only way to the summit, per Tokai Bus's table. The operator's closing-days line reads "irregular closures (suspension in bad weather and the like under our safety rules, plus long maintenance closures in June and December)", and its disclaimer adds that lightning, gusts, strong wind or an earthquake may mean visitors are asked to come down at once - a descent order rather than a suspension. No wind-speed threshold is published, so check the chairlift's own site (on 2026-09-13 it read "operating normally") and Tokai Bus service status before leaving. The same stop still works:

Izu Shaboten Zoo (a 5-minute walk, Futo, Ito City): 9:30-17:00, last entry 16:30, hours vary by season, open daily; 8:30-17:30 from 19 to 27 September 2026 on the official calendar. Weekdays 2,800 / 1,400 / 700 yen for adults, elementary-school children and ages 4 and up; 3,000 / 1,500 / 800 yen at weekends and in holiday periods.
Izu Granpal Park (30 minutes out on the same line, Futo, Ito City): 9:30-17:00, last entry 16:30, and 8:30-17:30 from 19 to 27 September 2026. Day-session admission is 1,600 / 1,000 / 500 yen on weekdays and 1,700 / 1,100 / 500 at weekends and in season. Admission does not include the paid rides: you pay at each attraction or buy a prepaid card (2,600 yen for 3,000 yen of credit, 1,800 for 2,000). Day and evening are separate sessions, so the evening illumination needs its own ticket. The calendar records a closure for bad weather on 7 September 2026.
Ippeki-ko (about 36 minutes from Ito Station, a minute from its stop): no fee is listed. The northwest shore of the main lake, between Koyo Hiroba and the foot of Oike Elementary School, has been closed to walkers since 15:00 on 31 October 2025; there is no detour, so the lake cannot be walked round. No end date is published.
Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art (alight at Ikeda Bijutsukan; the museum's own page says about 30 minutes by bus from Ito Station, fare 730 yen, 840 yen from 1 October): 9:00-17:00, closed Wednesdays (open on public holidays; open daily in July, August and over the New Year). Admission 1,000 yen general, 700 high school, 500 elementary and junior high - the museum's page notes the prices are "as of 1 April 2014".
