Ito, Shizuoka Without a Car: Train and Bus Model Courses

You can see Ito, Shizuoka without a car. Ito Station is served by the JR Ito Line and the Izukyu Line, and Tokai Bus runs from Ito Station and Izu-Kogen Station to Mount Omuro, the Jogasaki Coast and Izu Shaboten Zoo. Why Ito Station is the base

Ito Station is the end of the JR Ito Line and the start of the Izukyu Line (toward Izukyu-Shimoda). Odoriko limited expresses from Tokyo run through to Ito; local-train riders change at Atami (JR East Ito Station timetable).

Heading south, the Izukyu Line stops at Minami-Ito, Kawana, Futo, Jogasaki-Kaigan and Izu-Kogen. Adult fares from Ito: Kawana ¥370, Jogasaki-Kaigan ¥650, Izu-Kogen ¥750 (paper tickets). Ito to Izu-Kogen takes roughly 20 to 35 minutes on a local train (Izukyu fare table, Izukyu timetable, revised 14 March 2026; as of 2026-09-10).

Buses are run by Tokai Bus. The Tokai Bus office outside Ito Station (9:00–18:00 daily; 9:00–17:00 at New Year) sells the Tokai Bus passes below; Izukyu tickets are sold at the JR/Izukyu ticket window. Buses for Mount Omuro and Shaboten Park leave from bay 5; buses for the Jogasaki Coast (Izu Kaiyo Koen) leave from bay 2 (Tokai Bus sightseeing access; as of 2026-09-10).

Getting to each spot from Ito Station

Mount Omuro. Bay 5, "Shaboten Koen" bus (routes I60, I61, I65–I67) to the last stop, Omuroyama Lift / Shaboten Koen, about 49 minutes; from Izu-Kogen Station bay 1 (I70–I73, I80), about 24 minutes. The chairlift boards right in front of the bus stop. Round-trip lift ¥1,000 for adults (junior high and up), ¥500 for elementary students, free for preschoolers. Hours 9:00–17:00 March–September (last descent 17:15) and 9:00–16:00 October–February (last descent 16:15); closed in bad weather and for maintenance in June and December (Mount Omuro lift hours and fares, access; as of 2026-09-10). The summit path circles the crater with 360-degree views of Mount Fuji, the Izu islands and Sagami Bay (Ito Tourist Association).

Izu Shaboten Zoo. Same bus, same last stop. Tokai Bus says about 49 minutes from Ito Station (the zoo's page says 35); the entrance is a 5-minute walk from the stop. Open daily 9:30–17:00 (last entry 16:30, seasonal changes). Admission on weekdays ¥2,800 adults, ¥1,400 elementary, ¥700 ages 4+; weekends, holidays and school breaks ¥3,000 / ¥1,500 / ¥800 (zoo information, access; as of 2026-09-10).

Jogasaki Coast. Bay 2, "Kaiyo Koen" bus (I31, I35) to Izu Kaiyo Koen, about 42 minutes; from Izu-Kogen Station bay 2 (I70, I80), about 9 minutes. From the Izu Kaiyo Koen stop it is a further 20-minute walk to the Kadowaki suspension bridge (Tokai Bus). By train only, it is a 30–35 minute walk from Jogasaki-Kaigan Station (Izukyu's station page says about 30 minutes, the tourist association 35). The bridge is 48 m long and about 23 m high; the Picnical Course and the nature study trail together run about 9 km along the cliffs, and the tourist association's Boranaya-to-bridge hiking page shows 25 minutes as the course time, though its legs (Boranaya to the battery site 25 minutes, Tsubakuro Island 10, the bridge 10) add up to about 45 (Jogasaki Coast, hiking course; as of 2026-09-10).

Izu Granpal Park. Bay 5 (I39, I65), about 30 minutes; 9–20 minutes from Izu-Kogen Station. Daytime admission on weekdays ¥1,600 adults, ¥1,000 elementary, ¥500 ages 4+; weekends and peak season ¥1,700 / ¥1,100 / ¥500; the evening illumination is ticketed separately (fares, access; as of 2026-09-10).

Mount Komuro. "Komuroyama Ridge Walk MISORA" bus (I05, I22, I37; ask at the station office for the bay) or the bay 5 I61/I67 bus via Ippeki-ko, about 24 minutes (Tokai Bus; the tourist association says 23). The Komuroyama Pack (round-trip bus plus lift) is ¥1,870 adults, ¥580 children at the Ito Station bus office; the lift alone is ¥1,000 round trip, 9:30–16:00 (Komuroyama Park, Komuroyama Pack; as of 2026-09-10).

Ito Marine Town (roadside station). "Marine Town" bus, about 5 minutes, ¥200 adults, ¥100 children (IC cards accepted), or a 15–20 minute walk. Shops 9:00–18:00; restaurants 11:00–19:30 (last order); the free foot bath Attamarina 10:00–16:00, closed in rain (the Thursday closure on the same page applies to the dog foot bath). The day-use hot spring Asahi-no-Yu is listed as 5:00–21:00 (last entry 20:30) on its own page and 5:00–22:00 (last entry 21:00) on the site's hours page; check on the day if you go late (access, hours, foot bath, Asahi-no-Yu; as of 2026-09-10).

Tokaikan. A 7-minute walk from the station: a 1928 wooden hot-spring inn now run by the city as a cultural facility. Admission ¥300 adults, ¥150 children; 9:00–21:00 (last entry 20:00); closed the third Tuesday of each month and 1 January. The bath opens on weekends and holidays only, 11:00–19:00, ¥500 adults, ¥300 children (Tokaikan, Tokaikan bath, Ito City; as of 2026-09-10). The Matsukawa riverside walk (10 minutes from the station) faces Tokaikan; the free Fureai-no-Yu foot bath (10:00–17:00) is 10 minutes away and Ito Orange Beach 5 minutes (Matsukawa, Fureai-no-Yu, Orange Beach; as of 2026-09-10).

• Izukyu "Puratto Izu-Kogen" discount round-trip ticket: ¥1,000 adults, ¥500 children, Ito Station ticket office only (9:00–17:00). Ito to Izu-Kogen and back with stopovers at Kawana, Futo and Jogasaki-Kaigan, same day only; the one-way fare is ¥750, so it pays for itself (official; as of 2026-09-10).

Three car-free courses

Family day trip (bus, no transfers). Ito Station bay 5 to the Shaboten Koen terminus (about 49 minutes), two to three hours at the zoo, walk across to the Mount Omuro lift, circle the crater, and take the same bus back. The 2-Day Pass covers both rides and gives discounts at both places (as of 2026-09-10). If it rains, the indoor options are in Ito on a rainy day with kids.

Couples' day trip (train, walk the coast). Buy the Puratto round-trip ticket (¥1,000, as of 2026-09-10), ride to Izu-Kogen, take the bay 2 bus to Izu Kaiyo Koen (about 9 minutes), walk about 20 minutes to the suspension bridge, follow the coastal path and board the train at Jogasaki-Kaigan Station (about 30–35 minutes on foot). Back in Ito, walk the Matsukawa riverside to Tokaikan; on weekends the bath is open 11:00–19:00 (as of 2026-09-10).

Solo day trip (walk plus one bus). Morning on foot: Orange Beach, the Matsukawa walk, Tokaikan, then the free foot bath. Afternoon: one bus, either Mount Komuro (about 24 minutes) or Mount Omuro (as of 2026-09-10). One destination matched to the bus timetable keeps a solo day simple.
