Mt. Omuro Chairlift (Omuroyama Lift): Ticket Price, Hours, Closures 2026

The Mt. Omuro chairlift (Omuroyama Lift) sells round-trip tickets only: adults (junior high and up) 1,000 yen, elementary-school children 500 yen, preschoolers free. Hours are 9:00–17:00 from March to September (last ride down 17:15) and 9:00–16:00 from October to February (last ride down 16:15). The lift is suspended for inspection from Monday, December 7 to Friday, December 18, 2026. Walking up the mountain is prohibited, so the lift is the only way to the summit (Mt. Fares (round trip only, as of 2026-09-14)

• Tickets are round trip only, valid on the day of purchase for one person, one ride each way. There is no one-way ticket.
• Sold only at the lift ticket window. No advance or online sales, no refunds, no reissue, no transfer.
• Cash, credit cards, e-money and QR-code payments are accepted.
• The Ito Tourist Association lists the child fare as "age 4 and up 500 yen", which does not match the operator's "elementary school 500 yen, preschoolers free". Confirm at the window if you have a 4- or 5-year-old (official hours & fares, Ito Tourist Association, as of 2026-09-14).

Discounts (as of 2026-09-14)

• Disability certificate (Japanese shogaisha techo or ryoiku techo): half price for the holder and one carer; show the certificate at the window. Fractions under 10 yen are rounded up to the nearest 10 yen. Guide dogs, service dogs and hearing dogs cannot board.
• Groups of 20 or more: adults 900 yen, children 400 yen. There is only one boarding gate, so groups get no priority boarding and no separate window.
• Tokai Bus "Ito / Izu-Kogen 2-Day Pass" (adults 1,800 yen, children 900 yen): show it for 100 yen off the adult round-trip fare. The bus from Ito Station to Mt. Omuro is covered by the pass, so this suits anyone doing the trip by bus (Tokai Bus official, as of 2026-09-14).
• The official site lists no coupons or online discount tickets. Beyond the three above, we could not confirm any discount as of 2026-09-14.

Hours and last ride down (as of 2026-09-14)

• The crater loop at the top (about 1,000 m) takes 20–30 minutes, so plan to board at least 30 minutes before the last ride down. The summit path can be closed even during opening hours.
• The Ito Tourist Association splits the year differently: October 1–March 5 9:00–16:15, March 6–15 9:00–16:45, March 16–September 30 9:00–17:15, with an intermediate slot in early March (that slot is commented out on the operator's own page). If you go in early March, check the "current operating status" banner on the official home page that day (Ito Tourist Association, as of 2026-09-14).

Closures and the December 2026 maintenance shutdown (as of 2026-09-14)

• Monday, December 7 to Friday, December 18, 2026: the lift is suspended for its twice-yearly inspection (posted on the official site on 2026-09-12; dates may change).
• No fixed closing day, but the lift stops in bad weather or strong wind, and there are long maintenance closures in June and December.
• Even mid-visit, lightning or gusts can trigger an immediate descent, and fares are not refunded in that case.
• The day's status is shown on the official home page (closure notice, FAQ, as of 2026-09-14).

Waiting times and crowds (only what the operator publishes)

Neither the official site nor the tourist association publishes waiting-time estimates or crowd forecasts (as of 2026-09-14). What is known is how the system works:

• Each chair carries 2 riders (3 if one is a preschooler; babies are not counted).
• There is one boarding gate. No advance tickets, no group priority; if there is a queue, everyone joins the back.
• The lift slows or stops to let pregnant riders and people with limited mobility board and alight.

So there is no official way to skip a queue on a busy day. Either arrive for the 9:00 opening, or ride in the early afternoon working back from the last ride down.

Children, babies and strollers (as of 2026-09-14)

• Babies can ride, held firmly in arms or in a carrier.
• Up to 3 per chair if one is a preschooler. Elementary-school children pay 500 yen; preschoolers ride free.
• The summit path is steep and strollers are not allowed on it. Strollers can go as far as the viewing deck near the top station.
• There is an accessible toilet at the summit, plus a snack counter (soft-serve, dango, yakisoba, takoyaki).
• You may eat while riding, but take care not to drop food when boarding or alighting.

Can dogs ride? (as of 2026-09-14)

• Small dogs up to 45 cm at the shoulder may ride. Dogs ride free.
• Hold the dog on your lap for the whole ride (dogs may not sit on the seat). Leads must be 1 m or shorter inside the facility. Dogs are not allowed in the shops.
• Larger dogs cannot board. The fares page also states that guide dogs, service dogs and hearing dogs cannot board.

Wheelchair access (as of 2026-09-14)

• Yes. Staff will stop the lift for boarding if needed. Riders must be able to sit unaided.
• The summit path is narrow and steep, so wheelchairs cannot do the loop; the viewing deck near the top station is the limit.
• Speak to the staff at the boarding area before you ride.

Access and parking (as of 2026-09-14)

• Bus: from Ito Station bay 5, the bus bound for "Shaboten Koen" reaches the last stop in about 49 minutes; from Izu-Kogen Station bay 1 it is about 24 minutes. The lift entrance is directly in front of the bus stop (Tokai Bus sightseeing access).
• Car: about 500 spaces in lots 1–3, with coach parking in lots 1 and 2. For car navigation use the operator's address, Ike 672-2, Ito City, Shizuoka (official access page). The official site does not state a parking fee.
• Walking up is prohibited (the whole mountain is a national natural monument) and the old trail is closed.

At the summit

• Crater loop: a path of about 1,000 m around the rim, 20–30 minutes. On clear days you can see Mt. Fuji, the Izu Islands and the Amagi range. The operator recommends walking counter-clockwise.
• Archery inside the crater: 500 yen admission plus 2,000 yen for bow and arrows per hour; minimum height 140 cm, no elementary-school children.
• Coin lockers (paid) are near the toilets at the base; there are none at the summit.
• Drones and kites are banned.

Omuroyama Yamayaki 2027

The mountain is burned every year on the second Sunday of February, postponed in bad weather, strong wind or lingering snow.
