京都で筆と墨を買うなら
レッスンが終わって5分もすれば、自分の筆が欲しくなります。京都での答えははっきりしていて、鳩居堂 本店（中京区寺町姉小路上ル下本能寺前町520・〒604-8091・075-231-0510）です。1663年（寛文3年）創業、自ら「文房四宝＝筆・墨・硯・紙」の専門店と名乗り、公式の商品案内も「筆」「墨・絵の具」「硯、紙、書画用品」と部門が分かれています。営業は 10:00〜18:00、定休は 1/1〜1/4、12/31は17:00閉店。
どの店にも言えることですが、初心者用の練習筆と収集家向けの古硯では桁が違います。鳩居堂はオンラインに個別価格を全部は出していないので、予算を決めてから入り、ケースの中の美しい物を指さす前に「書道の練習用の筆を」と伝えるのが安全です。

作法と服装
- 墨は落ちません。 袖をまくれる服で、汚れても惜しくないものを。白いリネンはホテルに置いていってください。
- 床座りが基本。 京都の教室は畳に低い机が多く、たとえば MAIKOYA は「正座が苦手でも座布団があるので大丈夫」と明記しています。膝に不安があるなら、当日ではなく予約時に伝えること。
- 腕時計とブレスレットは外す。 運筆は肩から動かすので、手首の金属が濡れた紙を擦ります。
- 書き上げた紙を急がない。 墨が乾くまで数分は平らに置きます。色紙や掛軸はその後に仕立てるので、2時間コースは本当に2時間かかります。
